Taekwondo Tenets and Student Oath
TAEKWONDO TENETS
COURTESY
Be polite and respectful to one another, encourage the sense of justice and distinguish the instructor from the students, and the senior from the junior.
INTEGRITY
You must be able to know right from wrong, and have the conscience, if wrong, to feel guilt. You must be able to learn from your mistakes, and use them as a tool for yourself to not make the same mistake again in the future.
PERSEVERANCE
To achieve something, whether it is a higher degree or the perfection of a technique, one must set a goal and then constantly strive for it. Never give up on something to which you have a strong moral conviction. One of the most important aspects in becoming a leader in Taekwondo, and in life, is to overcome every difficulty through perseverance. Keep trying, never give up.
SELF-CONTROL
This tenet is very important inside and outside the school, whether conducting oneself in free sparring or in one’s personal affairs. A loss of self-control in free sparring can prove disastrous to both student and opponent as an injury can happen. In life the loss of self-control can lead to struggle in friendships, relationships and at a workplace. Stay calm in times of anger. Do not lose your temper.
INDOMITABLE SPIRIT
A student of Taekwondo should, at all times, maintain a positive attitude. Always remember that sun is coming up the very next morning. Nothing is more important that keeping a positive mental state of mind in all circumstances.
TEAMWORK
Teamwork means that students will cooperate using their individual skills, and providing constructive feedback to help each other succeed in martial arts and in life.
