We continued our month long series of How to Become More Successful in Breaking Boards. Junior, Teen and Adult students had fun breaking larger boards then is required on their Belt Test and few have even dared to try break real concrete cinder blocks.

I wanted to take a moment to share with you the experience and growth we had at the recent National Tournament in January 2014. This was my son's first tournament and he is a Senior Purple Belt. 

Grandmaster Nelson is an 8th Degree Black Belt with over 35 years of Taekwondo experience. He runs a Taekwondo school in Lexington, KY, and is known for his sparring and boxing prowess and precision techniques in his forms.

A few years before reaching the milestone birthday of 50, I decided to make earning my black belt at Spicar’s Martial Arts my goal to reach by then. I’d never had issues with birthday numbers before, but that number seemed huge to me. I had a daughter in elementary school and a son enrolled in preschool so I had a few free days per week to take classes. This was my opportunity as I was very familiar with Spicar’s because both of my children are enrolled here. My daughter has earned her black belt and my little guy is on his way. I knew this was the right school for me too.

On October 19th, our Spicar’s martial arts students helped broke hundreds of boards to raise money for two local charities.

Everyone, from our youngest 4 and 5 year olds to teens and adults, had a great time and enjoyed being together with their friends.

Girls worked with each other on scenarios when someone crosses their safe distance and learned that their voice is their biggest weapon and that they can use specific simple words to keep the stranger away.

"Mom/Dad! I don't wanna go to class today!" 

I know every parent in this school has heard this at least a dozen times. I even have parents come in so frustrated that they want to kill their children because they are just such a pain in the butt about coming to class at times.
