Lucie Spicar, Master Instructor

As a seasoned Taekwondo instructor at Reveal Martial Arts, I am delighted to share my expertise on the impact of fatigue on martial arts technique, especially for kids, teens and adults.

When we engage in rigorous physical activity, such as Taekwondo, we often experience physical fatigue, which can hinder our performance. Physical fatigue is characterized by a decline in muscle strength, endurance, and coordination. This can affect our ability to execute Taekwondo techniques such as kicks, blocks, and strikes with the precision and power that is expected of us.

Furthermore, mental fatigue also plays a crucial role in our performance. Mental fatigue is characterized by a decrease in cognitive function, attention, and decision-making ability. This can have an adverse impact on our ability to respond appropriately to the changing dynamics of a fight, and to execute techniques with the necessary speed and accuracy.

At Reveal Martial Arts, we recognize the importance of challenging our students with new techniques and drills to combat the monotony of repetitive training, which can lead to burnout and a plateau in performance. For example, we introduce new Taekwondo patterns with new moves and combinations to keep our students engaged and to develop their skillset.

In addition, we emphasize the importance of developing mental resilience and focus, which is essential for enduring the rigors of Taekwondo training. We teach our students techniques such as visualization and controlled breathing, which help to manage mental fatigue and improve performance.

Ultimately, we recognize that fatigue is an inevitable part of Taekwondo training, and it is our responsibility as instructors to provide our students with the tools and techniques to overcome fatigue and perform at their best. With the right training and mindset, our students can push through fatigue and excel in their Taekwondo journey.
